Kuala Lumpur · in your 40s

Making friends in KL in your 40s, when the old crew has scattered

Established career, maybe teenagers at an international school, golf handicap quietly rising — and the friends you made at 25 now live on three different continents. KL in your 40s is full of people who’ve done the small talk and want the real thing. LMTW runs hosted get-togethers of six people in their 40s — long lunches, wine nights, galleries — matched, hosted, free for founding members.

The 40s scatter, KL edition

The school-gate years end, the expat friends rotate home, and the calendar fills with obligations that aren’t quite friendship. You know hundreds of people in this city and have dinner with four of them.

KL rewards the long table — this city bonds over food better than anywhere on earth — but nobody organises the table anymore. That’s the job we took over. The full city picture: make friends in Kuala Lumpur.

What the 40s crews book in KL

Unhurried and worth it. From-prices are what you pay the venue:

  • Long lunches from RM60 — the kind that run to evening, Bangsar to Damansara Heights
  • Dinners of six from RM80 — member-nominated restaurants, one conversation at the table
  • Wine & whisky nights from RM60 — good bottles, better arguments
  • Fine dining from RM250 — KL’s tasting menus, with people who’d rather discuss the story than the thread count
  • Golf & social sport from RM80 — nine holes and a long drink after
  • Arts afternoons from RM30 — Ilham Gallery and the independent scene, debrief over coffee built in

Nobody’s performing. That’s the point.

No pitches, no property talk, no “so what do you do?” as an opening bid — the club’s zero-tolerance rule keeps the table clean. Six people, a host, an agenda on every seat, and the kind of conversation KL used to have over teh tarik before everyone got important.

Mark who you’d see again afterwards — secret unless mutual — and the good tables keep meeting. One lunch becomes the crew you call first.

Matched to your generation, checked by a human

Six people in their 40s with overlapping interests, shortlisted by the matcher and reviewed by a human before anyone’s invited. Your pace, your references, your kind of night.

Other decades in KL: in your 20s, in your 30s and over 50s.

Common questions

My old crew has scattered — will everyone else be like that?

Almost everyone at a 40s table says some version of it in the first ten minutes. It’s the most relatable sentence in the club.

What does it cost in KL?

Free for founding members — first get-togethers on the house. After that, credits: RM25 for 50, about RM6 an event. You pay the venue for your own food and drink.

Is it couples or singles or…?

Both, and neither matters. You set your intent at signup — friends, open to love, or both — and it’s shown on the night. Most 40s tables are simply good company.

Where do the 40s get-togethers happen?

Bangsar, Damansara Heights, Mont Kiara, KLCC — wherever members nominate and vote. The table lands where the crew actually lives.

The long lunch is back on. We booked it for you.
