LMTW. Let’s Meet This Week
Manchester

How to make friends in Manchester, the friendly city with full dance cards

Manchester is famously friendly — strangers talk to you at bus stops, and mean it. The catch is that friendly isn’t the same as available: everyone’s warm, and everyone’s diary is somehow full until 2027. LMTW is the diary entry that actually happens: hosted get-togethers of around six, matched by generation, interests and intent, from Northern Quarter coffees to Chorlton pub quizzes. Founding members get their first 50-credit pack free.

Manchester’s problem is abundance, not coldness

This is a gig city, a football city, a rain-as-a-bonding-agent city. People here will chat to anyone. But chatting at the bar and building a friendship are different sports — and Manchester’s social circles tend to have been established at school, uni or the academy circuit, with the door left politely ajar rather than open.

New arrivals feel it most: the Northern Quarter is full of people you’d like, Ancoats is full of people like you, and Didsbury and Chorlton are full of people you’d see every Sunday — if there were a mechanism. There is now. Matched crews of six, hosted nights, and a mutual-only follow-up so the good tables keep meeting.

Eleven get-togethers, Manchester edition

Around six people, hosted by a trained Captain, matched to your generation and human-reviewed. From-prices are what you pay the venue:

  • Coffee catch-ups from £4 — Northern Quarter and Ancoats, naturally
  • Breakfast club from £12 — the full works before a wet walk nobody regrets
  • Long lunches from £35 — Chorlton Sundays that last until the streetlights come on
  • Dinner parties of six from £45 — member-nominated venues, Captain-scouted
  • Games nights from £18 — pub quizzes taken exactly seriously enough
  • Gigs & live music from £25 — it’s Manchester; this one barely needs explaining
  • Fine dining from £80 — for the crew that’s earned the good room
  • Pickleball & social sport from £15 — beginner-friendly, indoors, rain-proof
  • Run clubs from £12 — canal paths and park loops, coffee after always
  • Walks and hikes from £15 — the Peak District is right there; act accordingly
  • Arts outings from £20 — galleries, theatre, film, with a debrief over a pint

How your first week works

Day one: four minutes of questions — your generation, your interests, your intent. Friends first; romance welcome, never required. No card, and founding members’ first 50-credit pack is free.

Within days: matched into a Manchester crew of around six, shortlisted by algorithm and reviewed by a human before invites go out.

The night: hosted get-together, venue revealed 24 hours before, your name on a seat and an agenda on every seat. Pay the venue directly for your own food and drink.

After: mark who you’d see again — secret unless mutual — and circles and chat keep it rolling. One quiz night in Chorlton becomes a monthly fixture. That’s the whole trick.

Common questions

Is LMTW free in Manchester?

Founding members get their first 50-credit pack free and the £20 price locked for life. Thereafter £20 buys 50 credits — roughly £5 an event, no subscription. You pay the venue for your own coffee, quiz entry or dinner, from £4 upwards.

What ages come along?

18 to 80, matched by generation — Gen Z crews, Millennial crews, Gen X and Boomer crews. You’re always at a table of your peers.

Do I have to come alone?

Most members do, and it’s designed that way — everyone starts equal, so nobody’s the odd one out for arriving solo.

What if I’m shy?

Six people, hosted, agenda on every seat. It’s structured and low-pressure — closer to a pub quiz team than a networking event.

Which parts of Manchester?

Northern Quarter, Ancoats, Didsbury, Chorlton, the city centre and beyond — venues are nominated by members and scouted by Captains, so get-togethers land where members actually live.
